Second Cycle Institution
As part of the Anglican Church’s mission, to continue an effective partnership with the Government on educational needs of the people, a remarkable feat identified with its establishment in the country, it is envisaged to establish a Day Senior High School in the Sekondi- Takoradi metropolis to absorb part of the overgrowing population of Junior High School leavers so as to ease the difficulties in the placement of students in more endowed Senior High Schools in the country.
It may interest you to know that, out of the over 216 basic schools that the Anglican Diocese has been able to spread over the Western Region, there is not a single Senior High School to collaborate the efforts of the Government.
It is planned to use the medium of a second cycle institution to provide the youth of the Western Region with the knowledge, technical skills and attitude necessary for further education and for successful performance in a high competitive workplace.
The Western Region is primarily an Agro-based economy with rich mineral resources. The recent oil find in the region has also provided additional boost for the requirement of highly skilled technical labor for the market place. The establishment of the University of Mines and Technology in Tarkwa also emphasizes the need for students with the requisite entry qualifications.
The Diocese plans to provide Secondary Technical Education, initially, with the following courses:
· Arts / General Science
· Business Studies
The total cost for the establishment of a two (2) stream Senior High Technical School has been estimated to cost GH¢200,000.00 for the provision of the following:
- Two (2) Stream Classroom Block including I.C.T Center,
- Administration / Library / Staff Common Room Block.
The Bishop’s commissary, Very Rev. Dr. Glenworth Miles of the St Georges Episcopal Church in New York pledged an amount of US$5,000.00 which was received during the last quarter of the year. This amount would be used early in the New Year to sort out the land issues and Architectural plans.
