Cathedral Extension ProjectLack of funds have slowed down the Cathedral Extension project. In order to prevent encroachers and birds from making the cathedral their abode, the cathedral PCC has fully paid for fixing sliding glass windows to protect the building. The frontal approach to the cathedral building is also seeing some facelift regarding the landscaping and perimeter fencing of the compound. It is hoped that as soon as enough funds are realized, the extension programme will resume.
Registration Of LandsDuring the period, the board took serious view regarding church lands and property. It was the general view of the board that properties and for that matter, lands that have been acquired by the various parishes have neither Indentures nor Title Deeds covering them. The Board has therefore urged all parishes to respond appropriately. The Archdeacons have been tasked to see to their various parishes regarding registration. Parishes who fail to respond before the end of the year would be sanctioned by the Lord Bishop.
Kajabir/Agona Nkwanta LandsThe Board took note of the above lands and made approaches to reactivate the Diocese’s interest. Representations were made to the chief of Kajabir arising out of which consent was given for the establishment of a Nursery School. Four parishes in the Sekondi -Takoradi Metropolis were mandated to team up to take on the project. The Diocesan Estate Officer started work with about GH¢3,000.00 levied from the parishes. The same fate applies to the Agona Nkwanta land which has been now closed in by development. It is hoped that with the establishment of the new Church at Agona Nkwanta efforts would now be directed to initiate a Primary school project on the land.
Assistance to Needy ChurchesRequests came in during the period from St Phillips J.S.S at Esiama, St. Thomas Anglican Church, Wassa Akropong and the St. James’s Anglican Church at Enchi’s outstation at Nyankamam for various forms of emergency assistance. However, due to lack of funds once again, with the exception of the Wassa Akropong Church that was given GH¢500 by the Tarkwa Archdeaconry to assist them in their building project the rest are yet to be granted any form of assistance.
Church GrowthThe Board, in the preliminary stages lamented over rate at which the Youth were leaving the church for lack of inspiring programmes and the negative perception of Anglicanism in general. Members could also not fathom why in areas where the church growth was stagnating other denominations were thriving. A critical analyses was also made on why there are no churches from Agona Nkwanta to Dompim and very few in the Nzema and Wassa Amenfi areas. A youth development policy was called for, which the Board commended the Tarkwa Archdeaconry for the recent church planting at Asankragwa. As a matter of fact, the Board recommended the Declaration of Asankragwa and environs as a missionary area to which the Lord Bishop endorsed. The adoption of Asankragwa Senior Technical High School and the posting of a Chaplain were also approved by the Lord Bishop. |
